Hi Janiah!

Let's solve these one teeny tiny step at a time. Pick a problem, then press Next. Press πŸ”Š and I'll read each step to you!

Three kinds of line friends

They cross once

Two roads that meet at one spot. One answer.
Called: consistent and independent.

They never touch

Like train tracks, side by side forever. No answer.
Called: inconsistent.

They're twins

The same line sitting on top of itself. Answers everywhere.
Called: consistent and dependent.

Magic rules to remember

Minus outside brackets flips the signs inside

βˆ’(5 βˆ’ 3x) turns into βˆ’5 + 3x.

Divide by a minus number? Flip the sign!

β‰₯ turns into ≀, and > turns into <.

Slope is rise over run

1/3 means go up 1, then right 3. Like climbing stairs.

x = a number is a wall

It stands straight up and down, like x = βˆ’4 or x = 5.

The zero trick

For rules like x + 3y = βˆ’6: make x be 0 to find one dot, then make y be 0 to find another dot. Join them!

y = a number is a floor

It lies flat, side to side, like y = βˆ’1 or y = βˆ’3.

Filled dot or empty dot?

≀ or β‰₯ gets a filled dot (the number counts). < or > gets an empty dot (it doesn't).
